AN SC312 Lecture Notes - Lecture 21: Zona Pellucida, Groes, Fertilisation
Document Summary
Everything after its been ovulated to completion of fertilization (syngamy) Syngamy is that period of transition from ootid ---> zygote. If the embryo dies if will be reabsorbed you won"t find anything. Embryo has not taken on an anatomical form that is recognizable as a member of a species. All the cleaving happens within the zona pellucida. The cells that are cleaving are called blastomeres. Blastocoele is a fluid filled area within the blastocyst. Cells on the outside flatten to produce a kind of skin A hatched blastocyst will start interacting with the uterus and telling the body that it"s there. Contractions will start to move the embryo down to the uterus. In dogs they ovulate over a few days that"s why the big span in the 2-cell zygote. Need to get it in there before it hatches though. The embryo has to tell the uterus that it"s there. Cowes and ewes produce a cytokine called interferon.
