The most well know and basic convention (those diagrams from high school building/rising up and then the falling action. Exposition: information about past events given by the playwright through character conversation. Often the bulk of the exposition comes at the beginning of the play. Inciting incident: an event that sets the action into motion. This incident should as a trigger for climactic outcome. An incident, an idea, a wish, or a plan in the mind of a leading character. May occur within the text or outside of the text (before the story began) Point of attack: the first action taken by the protagonist to achieve their goal.
