Textbook readings pg 1-10: being in a group changes in influences you behavior. By applying systematic and scientific methods to this process, they try to do so without letting their own biases and pre-conceived ideas influence their conclusions. Cultural patterns and social forces put pressure on people to select one choice over the next. Sociology can confirm thing that you have thought and believed about the world: we all have theories about people and society. Scioolgy looks at institutions, criminal systems, educational systems. Sociology offers the best way to explain why things occur. To question taken for granted assumptions and knowledge about the social worlds we live in: we all make assumptions whether right or wrong, we need to question that. Explanations about the social world, how it works and why it is the way it is: and how the social differently impacts different groups and individuals.
