Practices of power [power is key to everything] Ability to achieve your will despite resistance of others. Power is achieved through the control of resources of value. Markets, weapons, media, law, votes, workers, consumers and status [key form on power, peoples jobs are very influential to people] , freedom, self- determination. Proximal power family, peer groups, teachers, institutional power. Distal power impacts on you everyday but isn"t a power structure that can be challenged, institutions (laws), statuses, norms. Karl marx, emilie durkheim, max weber believed that: Society is an object of study, must be treated similar to the natural sciences. We aren"t concerned with economics, we want to know the social consequences because of the economic system. Social impacts of waged labour system (capitalism) Competition over scarcity of work leads to exploitation of workers.
