Certain people being higher up and others lower down. Our society is stratified by race and ethnicity. There is a hierarchy tied into issues of power. Unequal relations between ethnic and racial groups. Ethnic stratification the ordering of ethnic groups into a hierarchy of inequality, where some groups are dominant and hold greater power over other subordinate ethnic groups. Minority status is a reflection of less power (cid:862)(cid:373)i(cid:374)orit(cid:455) status(cid:863) of (cid:449)o(cid:373)e(cid:374), e(cid:448)e(cid:374) though there is (cid:373)ore. its a(cid:271)out po(cid:449)er, (cid:374)ot (cid:374)u(cid:373)(cid:271)ers. First component of ethnicity: unique cultural traits. Forth component: concept of distinctive (sense among the members of the group that the(cid:455)(cid:859)re distinct from others) Ethnic group- a group who, as a result of their shared cultural traits and a high level of interaction, regard themselves and are regarded as a cultural unit. As a society, we associate ethnicity with cultural factors. Race has been understood as having more to do with biology, rather than cultural traits.
