Document Summary
Our brain only lets our visual system see from the crook of our nose to the mother"s arm (as a baby) Our brains work in different ways at different times. Move away from the notion that the adult brain is superior; it is only more developed. Smartest we"ll ever be is between the ages of 1-7; we learn so much during that time (walk, talk). Until adolescence, where we have another growth spurt in our brain. Brain continues to develop through adolescence and through the 20s and 30s. Prefrontal cortex changes a lot during adolescence (decision-making, planning, inhibiting inappropriate behaviour) Grey matter volume increases coming towards adolescence and then decreases (synaptic pruning elimination of unused synapses) The ability to take in someone else"s perspective is something that continues to develop through adulthood. Adolescents have a tendency to take risks. Limbic system reward processing (gives you the kick" after taking risks)
