Therapist: not regulated, no criteria, more prominent even with no credentials. Social worker: not involved in diagnosis, focuses on how behaviour impacts life, first line of defense, extreme fringe of society, interact daily with people. Clinical psychologist: do research, phd, grad school, honours thesis, do research, phd, grad school, honours thesis, works together with psychiatrist. Psychiatrist: medical doctors first, specialize in mental health, biological basis. Not all therapy types work for all people. Humanistic: about reaching full potential to choose own destiny, self-actualize. We all believe the cause of our problems differently. People generally apply a variety of techniques in practice. Course is variable depending on the person: sudden and/or later onset is milder, gradual and/or early onset is often more chronic. Males more impacted than females and are more extreme.
