Learning is a relatively durable change in behaviour/knowledge due to experience. It allows organisms to anticipate the future based on past experienced and adapt to the changed environment. Phobias are an irrational fear of a specific objects/situation. In opposition to genetic determinism: born as a tabula rasa (clean slate, stimulus-response relationships, prediction + control of behaviour. Criticisms of pure behaviourism: denies individual agency, purely reactionary. Contemporary view: stimuli do influence behaviour, but they must be viewed from the perspective of the individual, combo of external + internal (cognitive) processes. Learning that two events are linked together. Antecedents (classical conditioning) -> behaviours -> consequences (operant conditioning)
