Important to know when a speaker means to assert a proposition or not. Used to practice multiple propositions in a sentence. I"m going to buy food (asserted) because im hungry. Proposition that has multiple component clauses or parts. E. g i"m going to buy food (asserted) because im hungry. If i get hungry (not asserted), i"ll buy some food. Some verbs can introduce propositions w/o asserting them. Set of premises for conclusion a. k. a thesis. Conclusion is the thing being argued for.
