The adventures of nikita khrushchev: the leadership struggle. Stalin a different person by the end of his life paranoid (doctors" plot jewish doctors poisoning higher ups) His inner centre was scared he would go after everyone. Had a stroke and it took a day and a half to discover this (he liked to be left alone) In the days before he died there was a meeting to decide who would take charge. They published information about stalin"s health blood pressure, preparing them for his death. On march 27 (couple weeks after stalin died) they started releasing people with short sentences (5 years), anyone under the age of 18, anyone over the age of 55, pregnant women, anyone with incurable diseases. In the weeks after stalin"s death the three people who were the main contenders were. Lavrentii beria the front runner, in charge of the atomic bomb project, he was the one who took the initiative.
