Wwi is the first real total war. Not a single country was prepared for the war, not even germany who was accused of starting the war. Russia was not prepared economically, military, or political (most important) German cut off access to the baltic sea. Russia"s warm water ports were cut off. Archangel port was frozen most of the year. First few months of the year went very well for russia, they were advancing. By the end of the first year there were food storages in the cities.
