Social control theory: relationship between social structure and deviance. Some types of social structures led to increase in crime and deviance: social bonds: Egoistic suicide occurs when a persons social ties are so weak that they want to be freed from social constraint: anomic suicide occurs when a lack of social integration. In a slum setting, delinquency is found to be more exciting for youth. Developed 4 links of social bonds constrain our behavior: attachment: refers to the degree to which an person has affective ties to other persons. Involvement a person is active in convential activities: belief a person believes in convential beliefs, values, morality. Self control the general theory of crime. Focused on external sources of social control such as friends, family etc. People who lack self control are impulsive and engage in things like smoking, drinking, dangerous driving etc.
