Most modern critical uses of the term irony root sense [involves] dissembling. All poems have a gap between the author and the character. Verbal irony depends upon the speaker"s ironic intention, which is shared by the speaker and the reader; structural irony depends upon the author"s ironic intention. Your brain doesn"t flow just one way, it flows. Stories about people ought to reflect this fundamental instability.
