Memory at the top is really small but really fast. The lower you go down the triangle the more memory you have but the slower and cheaper it is. A network is a connected system of something. Something that lets us share resources with other things. We communicate with everything (the telephone system has been put into place over a 100 yrs ago) We are still building on this telephone network. 1980 - networks were a subject of academic interest (some business interest) 1996 - networks a daily reality for millions of people. 1960s: how to get info from one place to another. 1990s: a time of great change in computer technology. Computers used to be much more expensive and large during the 60 (main focus of the time was how to connect info from one spot to another if a part of the communication line was destroyed (telephone) Bell was able to transmit info (voice) using light *photophone.
