There are journals that target broad audiences and journals that publich only in very specific fields. Some are published by corporations and some by scientific societies. Some publish mostly reviews, others research papers. Most are in text but some post exclusively online. Some are open access and some are subscriber only. Nature and science: 10% acceptance rate, rejection usually happens before review, 80% of papers are declined without review, rejection usually because of too focused topic or lack of novelty.
