Document Summary

Study guide module 1- principles of homeostasis. Be able to describe homeostasis: homeostasis: is the maitence of a normal state of function within a narrow range, set point is maintained by negative feedback loops, these feedback loops contain, 1. Sensors send signal to integrating system: 2. Integrating system: causes a change in that system to keep it within a set range: 3. Effectors: cells that make change, effector can be a muscle or gland. These regulatory mechanisms can be intrinsic or extrinsic to the organ. Intrinsic mechanism: built into the organ to be regulated. Hormone produced in a gland elsewhere in the body that changes conditions for that organ. Positive feedback: changes that place in the effector amplify the changes that push the system out of a constant range.
