A lot of the diseases we have seen in the past 30 years are created . Things we used to ignore as usual are now categorized as diseases. For example now when children can"t pay attention in class it is assumed they have. Adhd however 30-40 years ago people would have assumed he was an undisciplined child and that"s why he was hyper and misbehaving. Criteria for diagnosis has expanded (which became profitable for pharmaceuticals) 50% of children were diagnosed with adhd (which may show that not all these kids necessarily need medical treatment for behaviour as 50% is such a large percentage of children to have this disability) Abraham"s method was quantitative because he based his arguments on statistics, theory driven data. He is trying to explain why society in general uses a lot more drugs (pharmaceuticals) nowadays. The 1980"s to present (roughly) there is a trend in increase in drug use.
