Document Summary

As noted last week, there is little physical change in the brain size during adolescence, average 10 year old has 50% adult weight but 95% of adult brain weight. But weight is not correlated with intellectual ability. Many changes in intellectual capacity, many are physical, there is a gradual increase in white matter/myelination of the brain that increases over adolescent period. Grey matter: there is a spurt of increases in the beginning of adolescence but at the latter part there is a pruning of these synapses. This pruning is helpful because it consolidates neural pathways useful to infant! Adolescence marks the transition from concrete operations to formal operations. Yes it is true if you assume that children have flat heads, for a concrete operator they will say no!! Things that could happen, imagining them before they happen: use logic, solve problems by noting changes in reality.
