Prehension seizing or grasping of food during consumption. The start of mechanical digestion, breakdown into smaller particles. Shared between respiratory system & digestive system. Epiglottis; flap of cartilage covered in mucous membrane, it covers the entry into the trachea when animal swallows a bolus of food. Peristalsis worm-like contractions of the digestive tract that propel ingesta through the tract are called peristalsis. Mostly located in the neck and thorax.
