PSYC 376 Lecture Notes - Lecture 3: Jargon, Pragmatics, Cognitive Development
Document Summary
Psychology 367: unit 3: interviewing children: general principles. Explain why it is important to question children well. Three questions are asked when it is suspected that a crime has been committed against a child. Good forensic interview identifies the occurrence of child abuse and maltreatment and to identify when an allegation or suspicion is false. Good interview will maximize amount of correct information reported. Protection of the child and prosecution of crimes rest often entirely on the report of the child. As adults we understand that different discourse rules apply in different contexts. They think that one discourse rule applies across situations. How not to ask questions: negative questions. You don"t remember: tag questions: includes a request for confirmation on the end. These questions imply that the text preceding the tag is correct: yes/no questions. 3 to 4 year olds rarely say idk so they say yes or no even if they don"t understand the question or know the answer.
