The things that are examples of joint attention are behavioral manifestation of insight or understanding of other people. The theories we talked about last week explain these all at once, or together. Systems perspectives - each one of the examples of joint attention have their own explanation. Physical world - the world of stuff and objects. Different from the other approach which examines insights and what is changing in the baby"s mind. Lack of motility - need other people"s help. Biological needs that stimulate desire - motivation. Objects for the infant to point to. Pointing initiates a response, often an enjoyable kind of interaction. The first round of the chimp wars was unsuccessful. The second round of the chimp wars was successful to some degree. One of the important differences between the first and second round of the chimp wars is the flexibility of language. First round: no flexibility; a symbol means you get that thing.
