A new metaphor: attention is like a resource: people have tossed this around because it is such an abstract idea. Daniel kahneman developed the idea that attentional resource model. He believed hen we are more aroused, we have more of th cognitive resources to do things, (available resources depends on arousal?) When we are sleepy etc, we might have less resource.
