PSYC 330 Lecture Notes - Lecture 11: Purkinje Images, Smooth Pursuit, Saccade
Document Summary
Foveating means directly looking at it. (and activating your cones) Cones are sensitive to color, rods aren"t, they are sensitive to motion, and sudden appearance of something. The fovea is very small, and has a 2degree of visual angle. Not all animals can move their eyes, such as owls, therefore they move their necks to compensate for that. Eye muscles have great endurance because we use them everyday, and they have 3 main eye motions. Vestibular movements the eye movement we make when we want to keep looking at something, but you"re turning your head but you still continue to look at the thing. Vergence movements when something gets closer to you, you become crossed eyed. Autokenetic effect: when you see something you"re focusing on change/linger ex: dark room stare at doted light, ad you think it moves but it doesn"t. Smooth pursuit movements only makes these movements if there is a moving objet present.
