PSYC 330 Lecture Notes - Lecture 12: Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation, Ataxia, Superior Colliculus
Document Summary
Patients exhibiting a lack of awareness of objects in their left visual field, as well as unaware of the left half of objects [including information about the left half of their body] Parietal cortex mediates the conscious perception of object locations. Damage to the right hemisphere area can result in perceptual disruptions. Brain area primarily associated with spatial neglect is the right posterior parietal cortex. Something is present in the visual field, however, individuals with blindsight are able to pick up the object"s direction of motion, but won"t be able to identify the object present. Forcing them to choose between two objects, they are able to make the right choice even if they cannot identify the object in the field. Not aware of the identification: often skeptical about the choice made. Damage to one or the other hemispheres. Hemianopia typically always occurs on the left side of the brain (the neglected field that is)
