Accused persons should be released unless there are good reasons for detention o. Flight risk: risk that the person is engaging in acts of violence if released. The accused my need to pay money with or without an undertaking to pay more if the accused person does not appear at court: probation: a provincial sentence. Can stand alone or follow a provincial jail sentence: parole: early release from prison. Allow offenders to reintegrate into society while under the supervision of the correctional system. Offenders may apply for parole after serving 1/3rd of their sentence unless serving a mandatory minimum sentence. Parole can only be granted if the crown can establish a reason why it should not be granted.
