In 1955, child development researchers conducted a longitudinal study. Children born with prenatal or birth complications were more likely than others to develop physical disabilities, mental illness and learning disabilities. However, most children born with complications who had a supportive parental environment, grew normally with no disadvantages. Children born with complications and grew with poor rearing conditions resulted in many psychological diiculties. Some children, remarkably, can be born with complications and raised in a poor household, yet have no severe complications as adults.
