Our emotional intelligence is how we function emotionally (intelligence = emotional functionality). It looks at out social functioning and how our emotions play a part in this functioning and self regulation plays a role in that. People with a decent emotional intelligence tells us how people do as they grow up and grow into adulthood. Study: on 400 successful boys and their journey into adulthood, results = more of their emotional intelligence as at issue. Study: marshmallow test- the delay of grati cation study, kids can diverge their attention to eat the marshmallow and delay grati cation. Results: kids who were able to control their impulses and delay grati cation, grew up to be more successful, less likely to divorce, less likely to suffer from alcohol and drug abuse, etc. The developmental of emotions in childhood key components: 1) neural responses, 2) physiological factors: subjective feelings, 4) cognitions or perceptions, 5) expressive behaviour or cognitive interpretation.
