Also understand why the null ritual is a bad thing. Null ritual: a term coined by gigerenzer that denotes the ritualistic following of nhst steps without considering its implications or use. The idea that nhst is not the only way to obtain good results since nhst is only a statistical tool. Set up a statistical null hypothesis of no mean difference, called the zero correlation or (cid:1154)nil hypothesis(cid:1155) Don"t specify the predictions of your research hypothesis or of any alternative hypotheses! Just consider the null hypothesis, which is actually the nil hypothesis. For example, only specify h0: 1 - 2 = 0.
