PSYC 201W Lecture Notes - Lecture 10: Clinical Psychology, Demand Characteristics, Ecological Validity
Document Summary
Describe four categories of scientific inferences (1) inferences about construct (2) statistical inferences (researchers" inferred from their analysis vs result-vaild) (3) causal inferences (iv cause dv valid) (4) inferences about generalizability. Goal: demonstrate experimentally that individual differences in psychological qualities. Type of validity (1) construct validity (concerns the issue of whether the constructs (the conceptual variables) that researchers claim to be studying are, in fact, the constructs that they truly are manipulating and measuring. ) Conceptual replication: study that examines the same question as a previous experiment, but operationalizes the constructs differently. Replication with extension: an experimenter conducts a study using the exact same procedures as a previous study. The experimenter also adds a new independent variable to the study. Internal validity- 1, instrumentation effect: (1) the researcher delivers positive feedback (2) the researcher goes on vacation and has another experimenter. Results: indicate that the change in the experimenter had an effect on participants.
