We"ll continue to view rome through the eyes of european visitors, including some of england and ireland"s most famous literary figures. We"ll begin class next week talking more about goethe, and we"ll prepare for that discussion by reading a few short selections from his second visit to rome. I"ve listed below the sections you are to read. Note: you"ll be reading some more poetry this week, and you may need to give yourself more time to read these poems (especially byron"s) than you do the prose works.
