Particulate matter concentrations: usually expressed as mass of particles per volume of air. Refers to particle size (<2. 5 m in diameter) Means that if you add up the mass of all the pm2. 5 particles (all the particles with diameters < 2. 5 m), the total mass in each cubic meter of air would be 10 g. Traffic-related air pollution: mixture of particles and gases from cars, trucks, buses, etc. That seems to have particularly damaging effects on human health. The specific agent(s) responsible for the health effects has not been definitively identified. Over half of the burden from community air pollution is due to air pollutions impacts on the cardiovascular system. Part 2: indoor air pollution in low- and middle-income countries ( household air pollution ) Fuels are burned indoors, in open fires or poorly functioning, poorly ventilated stoves. Similar to what we saw for community air pollution, but with a larger contribution from respiratory infections.
