Document Summary

If a microbe can spread from one organism to another = contagious. Infects a suitable cell and utilizes the host cell machinery and energy to produce more viruses: consists of genome (rna or dna) surrounded by a shell of a protein (capsid). Some have phospholipid bilayer they steal from host cell and called envelope virus as opposed to naked viruses. From other species to human and cause diseases = zoonosis hepatitis, ebola, cancer. Some lie dormant or latent in cells and reactive later: antibiotics do not kill viruses (need antivirals). Lymphatic system: returns tissue fluids to bloodstream, protects against infection and diseases. Wbc: about 1 in 1000 cells in blood, origin from red bone marrow. Large blood cells has a nucleus: production is regulated by colony-stimulating factor (csf) and other hormones, can be found in blood and tissues (can leave blood and go into tissue to fight infections).
