Many xianbei people lost the ability of riding on a horse and archery. Debating sinicization: northern wei faced struggles; divided into two countries; one xianbei and one sinicized. Ethnicity and identity formation became and important part of state expansion and local governance. Native rule and nativeness were constructed and manipulated during encounters.
