Document Summary

Charles i, king of england, scotland and ireland r. 1625-1649. Not a popular king, actively disliked by many, arrogant cold and aloof and obvious to those in parliament he didn"t like the institution at all. Problem as king because of his religious preferences. England had gone through reformation and established an angliancan. Church sometimes became more catholic sometimes more protestant, flux depending on mood. He wanted anglican church to put on more of a show, he was married to a catholic, didn"t sit well with people in parliament and everyday people. As different from catholics as you got, stripped down version of christianity. Even so with all this things went okay for a while until 1640 . English kings needed to have parliaments on side because parliament did the taxing stuff. Situation in scotland is resolved quickly but another breaks out in ireland which charles also ruled.
