Document Summary

Used when we compare the means of three or more independent groups on dependent group of interest. Independent between subjects factor: categorical variables, each participant fits into one of the categories. Anova is like a t test where we compare group means at the time. Independent variable: subjects factor with 3 or more categories or groups, dependent variable that is continuous. Assumptions: the same as the assumptions for independent t test, observations are independent, cases are randomly sampled, and variances for each group are equal in population. Independent variable is normally distributed for the population: like sample t test we always test the last assumption. Independent variable = learning strategy, has 3 categories, strategy a b c. Dependent variable = word recall, number of words correctly recalled. We need to be aware of our grouping variable and our dependent variable. Need to know what our research question is, and also our null.
