Crown activities: advise police, prepare for trial, negotiate pleas, develop strategies, manage witnesses, argue bail conditions, recommend sentences, appeal sentences. Must present the states case in an attempt to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that the accused is guilty. Prosecution of sensitive cases like sexual ofences, family violence and the victimization of children. The majority of cases do not progress far into the system. Police or crown send many ofenders to alternative measures programs: diversion.
