Document Summary
Title of 1993 article on social disorganization by bursik and grasmick, where they discussed the demographic changes that had occurred in the city of chicago between 1960 and 1980. They found that severe economic deprivation had the strongest influence on delinquency and social order. Developed by robert park and ernest burgess, two of the earlier members of the chicago school. The model showed how the city of chicago grew, and how each of the 5 concentric zones had its own land use characteristics and different populations. Zone 1 is the loop, or the central business district. Zone ii is the zone in transition (a slum, or a ghetto, characterized by run-down tenements and abandoned factories). )o(cid:374)e iii is the zo(cid:374)e of (cid:449)o(cid:396)ki(cid:374)g(cid:373)e(cid:374)"s ho(cid:373)es, (cid:272)ha(cid:396)a(cid:272)te(cid:396)ized (cid:271)(cid:455) duple(cid:454)es. )o(cid:374)e iv (cid:894)(cid:1008)(cid:895) is the (cid:396)eside(cid:374)tial zo(cid:374)e, with apartment houses and single family dwellings. Zone v (5), at the outskirts of the city, is the commuter zone, also described as the bungalow section.
