Document Summary
There is a socialization process that occurs through group membership. Assumes that everyone has the potential to violate the law. Values, norms & criminal behaviour learned through interaction & communication. Criminal behaviour is a product of the social environment. Earliest and most influential form of social leaning theory. All significant human behaviour is learned behaviour and crime in not substantively different from any other form of behaviour. Through interaction w others: doesn"t mean the just associating w others leads to crime. Principal part of learning occurs within intimate personal groups. Learning includes techniques of committing crime & specific directions of motives & drives. Direction of motives & drives learned from definition of legal codes as favourable or unfavourable. A person becomes delinquent because of an excess of definitions that favour violating law. Crime is learned same way as learning other behaviour. Criminal behaviour is expression of same general needs & values as non-criminal behaviour.
