Protagonist, iniially starts to kill ime, but then couldn"t stop watching his neighbours. He enjoyed gaining knowledge about his neighbours by watching them. Studies of male gaze result in psychoanalyic theory. Doesn"t simply mean look but entails that there"s a relaionship between the viewer and the object being viewed. This viewing gaze is moivated by desire, pleasure and fantasy. Voyeurism - pleasure of looking without being seen. When voyeurism was studied, it was assumed that male is looking and female is being looked at. For now we sick with heterosexual relaions to give you a basic idea about the gaze. From young ages, women are trained and taught to survey themselves. In this process, women survey themselves through men, through the male gaze. European oil painings - unil recently most collectors of art were women, most viewers were also men.
