The social conditions of production must be maintained ideologically, through culture. The rules of established order > learned in school > listening skills to get a job (producing compliant work - after graduation, get a job) (work on time, be polite, etc. ) Also learned rules of capitalist way of life > television > learning how to consume. > repressive state apparatus (to maintain order and system) > the legal system. The role of ideology is the primary source that maintains the status quo.
