Revolution on island on syracuse, ruled by tyrants for decades, but overthrown and now there was a democracy. (except for women and salves). They wanted their land back bc it had stolen by tyrants. Had to go to court to prove it was their land. Realized two things, court cases are won on probability, believed in the power of language. One of the very first to take the idea of language and disengaged that language serves as everyday communication and that it"s as political vehicle, and has power. Language is not just power socially, its power politically and culturally. Language origins he believed that language came from the gods, they gave different powers to different people. If we can figure how anyone becomes linguistic, then we would have the key that explains how language originated. There is a critical period where people can learn language. Kid was not in contact with humans for 2 years, grew up with with wolves.
