Throughout history, there are often composers who are regarded as extremist or radical in their own time; later, however, these composers may be seen as ahead of their time ; are progressives who pushed the boundaries of music. Prior to the 20th century, these composers included monteverdi, haydn, beethoven, and wagner. In the first half of the 20th century, the list would include debussy, stravinsky. There are also composers who were content to keep things the way they were. These figures tend to react to changes in a negative way. Of these, only those who were exceptionally talented are remembered. Before the 20th century, such figures were bach, mozart, and brahms.
