Its purpose is to apply such knowledge toward improving an organization"s effectiveness. Organization - a consciously coordinated social unit, composed of a group of people that functions on a relatively continuous basis to achieve a common goal or set of goals. Individual level: group level, organization systems level. Individual differences: people have differences in characteristics that little can be changed. Job satisfaction: belief that satisfied employees are more productive. Organizations should provide challenge and intrinsic rewards. Job satisfaction negatively correlated with absenteeism and turnover. Motivation: majority don"t feel recognized for work well done, ex. Ups - motivating workers in different ways to reduce turnovers. Empowerment: employers share more of their power with employees. Associate, teammate: 1980s - 1990s, workers given more self-managing roles, ex: westjet - employees given guidelines of responsibilities. Empowerment - giving employees responsibility for what they do.
