BUS 216 Lecture Notes - Lecture 5: Reconsideration Of A Motion
Document Summary
Chapter 5: communicating routine messages and building goodwill. Routine business message: a short, nonsensitive, straightforward communication that asks questions, answers questions, provide info or confirms agreements. Goodwill message: any message that gives you the opportunity to establish and sustain a positive relationship with your audience. Part 1: how do you compose messages containing questions and requests: decide between a direct or an indirect message. Direct is the better choice for most request, easy to understand. Indirect requires the audience to read through all the details before learning why those details are important. As a result, the audience may need to read the message more than once. In some circumstances, if the audience needs additional info to fully understand your request, a brief introduction can be helpful. Reconsider the subject line based on direct or indirect message, if direct subject line can state request clearly, indirect requires the subject line to be neutral: provide reasons for the request.
