Document Summary

Physiologically gliding joint: describe the bones associated with the knee. Backside = wedge that fits patellofemoral groove: describe the menisci. Moves more and more vulnerable to injury. No blood supply: describe the capsule. Provides rotational stability: what are the 3 knee articulations. Patella and femur: describe the 2 extracapsular ligaments. Short - tight when knee is bent//long = tight when knee extended. Attaches femur & head of fibula. Injury is not common b/c it is protected by the other leg: describe the 2 intracapsular ligaments. Prevents anterior displacement of tibia on fixed femur//hyperextension. Hamstrings do similar jobs, therefore if you injure acl, must work on strengthening associated muscles. Prevents posterior displacement of tibia on fixed femur. Quads do similar jobs: describe the muscles associated with the knee. Function = leg extension at the knee. Flex leg at knee/extend thigh on trunk of hip. Grosses knee therefore helps with knee flexion. Helps pull legs together: describe the knee movements.
