Factors to consider when choosing a fertility management plan. Some methods of birth control are more costly than others. Some methods are more accessible than others. People choose different methods of birth control for personal comfort reasons. Barrier methods are the only ways to protect an individual from stis. Continuous abstinence: no sexual intercourse, or sexual interplay. Can be for a lifetime or for an extended period of time. Periodic abstinence: abstinence based on a woman"s menstrual cycle. Don"t have sex either 5 days before and a couple days after ovulation. Temperature method: measure basal body temp; typically measured in the morning; when a woman is ovulating the body temp increase by 0. 4-0. 8 degrees celsius. Calendar method: day 14 of cycle (with day 1 being the start of the period) Mucous method: when cervical mucus changes from cloudy and sticky to clear and slippery. Man ejaculates outside of the woman"s body. Note that pre-ejaculation fluid does contain some sperm.
