Ecologists and environmental scientists are focusing much of their attention on trying to understand the ecological processes that regulate the global ecosystem of the earth. Most of the impetus for this interest is to try and reduce the degradation of the global ecosystem by human activities, or to plan for the consequences of our continuing poor treatment of our home. Need to be mindful about certain biases, so it does not reflect in experiments which should be fairly subjective. >75% of species extinct in 2m yrs. How the log area compares with the log species richness, prior to and after the arrival of humans. Herbivores that travel in groups first to become extinct after human arrival. There is no smoking gun, reason for this. Humans are affecting essentially every process and ecosystem that we have already discussed in this course.
