Humans have come up w the concept to explain recurring visible physical events. Relates to the beginning of early christians, who borrowed a lot of pagan stuff. Western calendar is more/less fixed w the exception of easter, whereas the muslim cal changes often bc its based on the sun. Multiple calendars that are connected to each other. 5 nameless days (bc cal leaves 5 extra days in 365 days)- time of fear/worry, no fires lit, eat cold food to wait and see if new year starts. Every 52 years the day and numbers reset and are reused. Can"t tell which 52 year cycle you"re on. Long count - system that counts beyond 52 years. Mayan calendar starts back in mythical times, goes as backward as long as you want it to, and as forward as you want it to. The longest date recorded anywhere on earth. *don"t need to know sites + dates (tres, etc)
