Prevalence in canada: almost 30% of all police reported violence happens between intimate partners, almost 80% of these victims are women. Differences in women"s and men"s experiences of violence. The intersections of violence: not all women experience violence similarly, much of ones lived experience of violence will depend on class, race, nationality, immigration status, citizenship, ability and sexual orientation. It also diminishes a woman"s ability to care and provide for her children and to participate in the work force. Indicators of emotional abuse leading to physical abuse: threats, restriction of the woman"s movement, damage to the woman"s property. Isolation: constant criticism, monopolization of perception brainwashing , required secrecy, covert behaviours, financial abuse, spiritual abuse, sexual domination, hiv risk, ritualistic abuse. Economic/financial abuse: exerting control of the victim"s financial resources without consent, withholding the resources necessary for basic physical necessities such as food, clothing, children"s diapers, adequate housing, personal care and medication.
