Modernists perspective, draws on notions of a gender role and it"s strains/discrepancies. Naturalized roles and a subscription to them (ritual) Eg. metrosexuality as a strain to heterosexuality. These same roles and rejection of them. Heterosexuality goes through phases - masculinity always changing. Masculinity in process but never really accomplishes - masculinity and performance. Ability/mobility to move along from gendered normatives. Popular representations of heterosexuality - exaggerated hyper masculinity. Gender is the repeated stylization of the body, a set of repaired acpt within a regulatory frame that produce the apparative of a natural sort of being .
